Who we are

What is our mission? We believe that harmonic landscape is, along with educated and functioning society, one of the basic conditions of quality life. Therefore we decided to protect it, actively contribute to it on our own and bring concrete solutions. Čmělák - Friends of Nature - is the biggest ecological organization in North Bohemia. For more than 18 years we have cared about environment around us, we have planted over 500,000 seedlings of original tree species, we have mantained over 62 hectares of rare locations within the land trust and we have annualy organized educational enviromental programmes for over 4,500 pupils and students. We create the space where we want to live. We try to get involved actively as much of the public as possible, eg. in practical working in the terrain. Our goal is also to inspire educated public and land owners and attempt to establish a long-term co-operation.

Nature Conservation

• we acquire our own lands within the land trust and we try to transform them into islands full of life in the currently devastated landscape
• we map occurences of endangered and rare trees and we collect their seeds
• we plant original kinds of tree species, which is the way we contribute to the restoration of harmonic landscape and we also increase the number of locations where disappearing species of plants and animals can find their home
• we contribute to the restoration of original forests and to the salvation of endangered kinds of original tree species

Educational activities

• we organise professional guided excursions and events for the public
• we launched two educational forest tracks in Harcov and in the New Virgin Forest
• we prepare educational enviromental programmes for schools and interesting workshops for teachers
• we organise workcamps and weekend events for Czech and foreign volunteers
